Reasons to Love Winter

Granted it's not the most popular season but, winter has a lot to offer if we just give it a chance.

Today for example, it is 3 degrees celcius, and the sun is making it feel closer to 10 on your face.

It's glorious.

The light reflecting off the snow makes wearing sunglasses an absolute must. Everything about the sun today makes you feel more positive, bright and motivated. Even if it was -15 it's worth going out for that fresh air and activity versus fighting with cabin fever!

Do you love to do things in the summer like hiking, swimming, rollerblading, biking?

There really is no reason you can't do the same in the winter. Granted the beach is frozen and frost bite is a concern but, there are lots of indoor pools you can visit. You can still hike whether you have snowshoes or not. Instead of rollerblading you can cross country ski or skate.

On the gorgeous winter days like today, there is bare road. So let your excuses go and grab those rollerblades! Just because it's January and there is snow where the grass used to be, it doesn't mean the conditions are wrong for fun activities.

Here are some simple ideas to help pass the time during the cold months!

  1. Build a snow fort

  2. Late night walk/snowshoe - lighting by the stars, moon or flashlight/lantern!

  3. Snowmobile

  4. Campfire - hot dogs and marshmallows taste superb when it's cold out!

  5. Ski or snowboard

  6. Tube slide

  7. Toboggan

  8. Look for bird tracks in the snow

  9. Snow angels

  10. Build a snow family

Other reasons to LOVE winter:

  • It builds our appreciation for the warmer months ahead!

  • It allows us to have some pretty amazing animals in our country, like Polar bears.

  • Allows us to do activities that we can ONLY do when it snows!

  • It's part of our Canadian identity!

  • The cold is an excuse for a hot toddie or hot chocolate, every day!

  • If you have a field farming husband - he's home and available!
